Coun. Brian Pincott is hoping the city will cough up $100,000 to help Haiti rebuild, after it was ravaged by a hurricane last month.

"What they need now is infrastructure to be built, rebuilt," he said.

"What they need now is clean water, they don't need blankets and power bars."

Pincotthas been to Haiti through his work with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and said fixing the roads in the country would allow aid to reach the stricken areas.

"Their infrastructure was hit pretty bad. Roads, bridges, water, stormwatermanagement, all of that kind of stuff," he said.

Personal donations

The FCM is trying to raise money across Canada and he'd like to see Calgary chip in.

"I'd like to see us put $100,000 into the pot and then see how we can work to get money from Calgarians, because You know what? Iknow Calgarians care. Igot phone calls from people saying'Where do Idonate?'"

He's working with administration to find ways for the city to accept individual cash donations that can be passed on to the FCM.
