Calgary man sought after 5 guns worth $65K stolen from residential parkade

Calgary police are hunting for a 23-year-old man they say broke into a residential parkade and stole five high-end firearms before making off on a bicycle.

Calgary police are hunting for a 23-year-old man they say broke into a residential parkade and stole five high-end firearms before making off on a bicycle.

The weapons are worth an estimated $65,000.

Police say the theft happened around 6:15 a.m. on Aug. 14 when the culprit broke into the parkade and rode around on a bike, prowling the parked vehicles inside.

He then went to a storage room within the parkade, broke open the door and stole five "high-end long guns" in cases.

The theft was captured on surveillance cameras.

Arrest warrant

Police reviewed the footage and issued an arrest warrant for Colton Wayne Hilgen.

The Calgary resident is wanted for one count of break and enter and five counts each of possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

Police said Hilgenis also wanted on unrelated warrants for three counts of break and enter, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of mischief to property.

He is described as a white man, about six feet tall and 180 pounds, with a slim build, short blond hair and blue eyes. He may have a goatee.

Anyone with information about the theft of the guns or Hilgen's whereabouts is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
