Calgary man charged in fatal Taradale stabbing

Calgary police have charged a man in connection with a homicide in northeast Calgary earlier this month.

Calgary police have charged a man in connection with ahomicide in northeast Calgary earlier this month.

Walker Eli Risling, 23,is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Matthew John Brown.

Brown was found suffering from stab woundsin hisTaradale home on Jan. 5and was taken to hospital where he died.

Police believe he had been hosting a party, but by the time officers arrived only one person had stayed with the injured man.

Staff Sgt. Grant Miller said Risling walked into the Westwinds Campus, which houses the Calgary police homicide unit, and turned himself in on Friday.

Police say the two had been friendssince Risling moved to Calgary from B.C. a few months agoand this was an alcohol-fuelled party gone wrong.

Risling was also involved in a serious car accident in Revelstoke, B.C., within 24 hours of the stabbing, according to police.

Officials say a weapon has been recovered.

Brown's stabbing is the city's first homicide of 2013.

Risling will make his first court appearance on Monday.
