Residents from three homes in anorthwest Calgary community are displaced after a fire quickly spread to their homes early Sunday morning.

Fire crews responded to afire on the 100 block of Sherwood Crescent N.W. just after midnight. A two-storey home was up in flames and threatened the exteriors of neighbouring homes, says a news release issued by the Calgary Fire Department.

Neighbour Dilyar Askarheard the sirens andwent outside to see what was going on. After walking afew blocks, he saw multiple fire trucks and "massive, massive smoke and a bright, red glow."

"When you went closer to the house, you could see this massive fire," he said.

"It's quite surreal. You see these on TV and YouTube and so forth, but when you see it in person, it takes you back and puts you in the moment."

Calgary resident Dilyar Askar took this video early Sunday morning of a fire that quickly spread to three homes in the city's northwest.

Crews were eventually able to extinguish the fire and none of the residents of the homes were injured, the news release says.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, andcrews are still at the scene.

Although the fire has been contained, neighbours feel for the families who have now lost their homes, said Askar.

"Seeing all that burned down, it really, really touched me," he said.

"Hopefully insurance will cover it, but there's still some loss there."
