Parkade sexual assault suspect arrested in downtown Calgary

Charges have been laid in connection with a violent sexual assault in a downtown Calgary parkade earlier this month.

Charges have been laid in connection with a violent sexual assault in a downtown Calgary parkade earlier this month.

Andy Dick Ntunaguza, 30, was arrested downtown on Tuesday night by the district one mountain bike team.

He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, and overcome resistance by choking.

On the afternoon of Dec. 20, police were called to aparkadein the 200 block of 6 Avenue S.W. by security guards who came across the severely beaten woman in her 40s.

The victim met the attacker a few blocks away and went with him to meet a friend, according to police.

After the meeting, the man allegedly followed her into the stairwell where she was attacked.

Security guards found the woman just before 4 a.m.,severely beaten and sexually assaulted. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

In the days after the attack, police released several CCTV images of the suspect. A news release sent out on Wednesday thanked the public for their help with the investigation.

Ntunaguza remains in custody and is set to make his first court appearance on Jan. 4.
