Police ended a dramatic chase through northeast Calgary by ramming a suspected stolen car during the Monday morning commute.

Officers were called to a home in the 500 block of Aboyne Crescent N.E. at about 7:30 a.m. for reports of an assault involving pepper spray.

A vehicle was seen fleeing. Police say the driver drove over a median, blowing one of the tires.

The SUV then headed toward Chestermere, just east of the city, before turning around and returning to Calgary.

Police say the vehicle was being driven dangerously, and since it was during rush hour, they made the decision to stop it with a cruiser at 26th Avenue and 66th Street N.E.

One person was taken into custody.
