Man charged after police seize $760K in drugs, 11 guns and cited for violating COVID-19 distancing rules

A Calgary man not only faces 27 charges on drugs, weapons and stolen vehicle allegations but has also been issued a summons for violating COVID-19 distancing rules after a six-month investigation led police to seize thousands of pills and many kilograms of other drugs.

A Calgary man not only faces 27 charges on drugs, weapons and stolen vehicle allegations but has also been issued a summons for violating COVID-19 distancing rules after a six-month investigation led police to seize thousands of pills and many kilograms of other drugs.

The Calgary Police Service issued a release Tuesday sayingthe investigation began in October 2019 after the force wastipped off about suspicious packages travelling from Calgary to Quebec.

That month, police intercepted some packages and foundsix kilograms of dried cannabis and 270 bags of cannabis shatter inside.

The investigation revealed ties to two Calgary homes and a rural property in Okotoks, police said.

On Monday, police intercepted another package bound for Edmonton. It contained 50 tabs of LSD and five litres of what police said is believed to be GHB, or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid.

GHB isananesthetic occasionallyused to treat conditions including insomnia and depression, but became known as a date rape drug. The drug, sometimes known as liquid ecstasy, is also taken recreationally as a stimulant and aphrodisiac at raves or dance parties.

On Thursday, police executed a warrant under theControlled Drugs and Substances Act at a home in the3000 block of New Brighton Gardens S.E.

Police said they seized an estimated $759,010-worth of drugs:

  • 7.7 litresof GHB.
  • 164 grams offentanyl powder.
  • 94 fentanyl pills.
  • 155 grams of powder cocaine.
  • 70 grams of crack cocaine.
  • 44 grams of ketamine.
  • 1,450 hits of LSD.
  • 852 grams of methamphetamine.
  • 13 grams of MDMA.
  • 11,050 ecstasy pills.
  • 4,250 Xanax pills.
  • 174 Cialis pills.
  • 100 grams of Viagra.
  • 595 grams of steroids.
  • 8.8 kilograms of cannabis.
  • 5.7 kilograms of cannabis extracts (shatter, resin, hash).
  • 140 grams cannabis edibles.
  • 200 grams unknown powders.
  • 985 unknown pills.
  • 5.5 kilograms of suspected buffing agent.

The same day, police executed a second warrant on an acreage in the420000 block of 17th Street East inFoothills County,north of Okotoks.

They seized eight rifles, two shotguns, a revolver, a large amount of ammo and a stolen GMC Sierra.

Kenny Bergeron, 34, faces 27 charges.

Police said Bergeron was also issued a summons under the Public Health Act. It was believed he had come into contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19 but was observed having close contact with people who are not members of his family, police said.

He's set to appear in court on May 8.
