Calgary teens pulled from icy pond near Spruce Meadows

Two Calgary teenagers have been taken to hospital after being pulled from an icy pond off James Mckevitt Road, north of Spruce Meadows Trail Sunday afternoon, paramedics tell CBC News.

EMS received the call around 3p.m.

The Calgary Fire Department said the pair had fallen through the ice and could not get out on their own.

"The male and female teenagers had been in the water for several minutes and were in extreme distress," the department said in a release.

"Fire crews were able to uses ropes to assist both people out of the water and back onto thicker ice and eventually back to shore."

The youth are in non-life-threatening condition and were transported to South Health Campus for observation.
