Calgary Transit to boost service by 55,000 hours

City council has approved Calgary Transit's plan to boost its service next year.

Council approves new services hours to be financed by increased ridership

City council has approved a plan to provide Calgarians with more public transportation options next year.

Calgary Transit will add 55,000 new hours of service, funded through higher revenues which have resulted from increased ridership.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said council likes the idea of reducing the crowding on some bus routes by increasing frequency, and also getting buses into new communities sooner.

One thing we're really learning is that, as we are building new communities to be more transit friendly, there's a real pent-up demand to take transit, he said.

A monthly bus pass will cost more in the New Year. It's going up by $2to $96 for an adult monthly pass. The adult cash fare stays at $3.
