Carbon monoxide scare clears northwest school

Students have been evacuated from a northwest Calgary school because of high readings of carbon monoxide.

Emergency crews found high levels of the potentially poisonous gas on Friday afternoon after a caretaker reported a strong gas odour in the boiler room of the Louise Dean Centre at 120 23rd St. N.W.

About 100 students and staff were evacuated from the public school, which runs high school courses for teenage mothers, to a nearby church.

Paramedics treated one adult on the scene for "minor concerns," said a news release from the Calgary fire department.

Firefighters are ventilating the school and believe they've found the source of the carbon monoxide in the boiler room, said officials.
