Charges upgraded in fatal stabbing of navy veteran in Calgary

The man accused in the stabbing death of Edward Brett Davidson has seen the charges against him upgraded to second-degree murder from manslaughter.

The man accused in the stabbing death of a navy veteranwho had only recently moved to Calgaryhas hadthe charges against him upgraded to second-degree murder from manslaughter.

Police announced Fridaycharges had been upgraded against Cory Carl Miklic, who also goes by the last name Szabo.He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Tuesday.

Edward Brett Davidson, 39,was fatally stabbed outside his condo in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue S.E. after he was confronted by a man he did not know, police said.

Davidson was born and raised on Vancouver Island,but had recently moved to Calgary "in search of a new adventure,"hisfamily said in a statement earlier this week.
