A storm passed through the cityeast of Calgary around3:30 p.m. MT, bringing hail, rain and lightning.

No power outages were reported, she said.

Drivers were asked to stay off of flooded roads.Anyone with floodedelectrical systems was asked to call 911.

Environment Canada was warning that the storm could be severe in parts of southern Alberta, and Calgary was under a thunderstorm watch for most of Tuesday.

Request for disaster recovery funding

Meanwhile, city officials will askthe province to request financial support for Sunday's flooding.

Some homeowners are discovering insurance may not cover the full extent of the damage.

Kim Deck's basement filled with water on Sunday. His sump pump couldn't keep up and the sewer backed up as well.

"It's a total write-off. Six feet into the basement," he said. "Hopefully trying to salvage some of the ceiling itself."

Deck was told a change in his insurance policy means his maximumcoverage is$15,000. He thought he was covered for a lot more.

Mayor Matthews is hearing similar stories. About 300 homes were impacted by the flood.

"My understanding is there are a number of people for which insurance isn't covering the entirety of the damage. And we want to make sure people can get back to their regular lives as fast as possible."

The province says it has people on the ground in Chestermere to answer questions and help municipal officials apply for disaster recovery funding.
