Two young men jumped in a contractor's truck while the worker was nearby early this morning and drove it the wrong way on a downtown street before crashing into a building, police say.

The brief drama began shortly after 5 a.m. MTwhen the culprits took the idling vehicle from the 700 block of Ninth Avenue southwest, said Det. Andy Nguyen.

They headed the wrong way down Ninth Avenue, driving through several barricades before crashing into a parked truck, knocking over a light stand, and hitting the side of the building at Westmount Place on the 1100 block of Eighth Avenue southwest.

The driver got out of the truck and tried to steal a second vehicle, police says.

Police took the suspect, a man in his 20s, into custody and are looking for the other man involved.
