Calgary crane stunt angers construction company

A video that's surfaced online of a daredevil making his way up an unfinished Calgary highrise is getting a big thumbs down from the construction industry.

"I was shocked to see that he doesn't really realize what he's doing and the danger it causes to himself, the general public and emergency personnel that might have to rescue him," saidShane Beazley, VP ofEllisDon the company contracted to build the downtown tower.

Reports say the climber is Joseph McGuire, who talked to CBC in July after heillegallyascended up Trump Tower in Vancouver.

McGuire told the CBC that he's climbed Trump Tower four times and climbed 30 cranes and 100 rooftops, mainly in Vancouver and Victoria. He said he once nearly fell off the Hotel Vancouver.

He used aGoPro camerato film himself climbing the Eau Claire building and does notappear to be wearing any safety gear.Thevideo ends with McGuirescaling a craneand then sitting down and enjoying the view.

"I'm a little bit disappointed that he gets his 15 minutes of fame and it may spur copycats or encourage them," said Beazley.

Beazleysays there are CCTV cameras and security at the construction site, but the stuntman may have been mistaken for a worker.

"We've had break andenters and thefts,but nothing where someone has entered our sites and sensationalized it."

EllisDonhas handed over itssecurity footage to the Calgary police, who are investigating the incident.

Beazleysays he will also be bringingup the issue at his next meeting with the Calgary Construction Association.

"[We] need to ensuresure we're condemning his actions."
