A two-year-old girl has died from injuries she sustained when she was hit by a car on Thursday morning in southwest Calgary.

The girl and her mother were stopped at a crosswalk at Shawville Gate and Shawville Boulevard S.W. when the apparentlyout-of-control car hit the child, who was in a stroller.

Several high school students who witnessed the incident said the driver struck a few road signs before hitting the woman and the toddler, who was in a stroller.

The child, Mihnaz Binish, died of her injuries on Friday. Her mother's injuries were minor.

"The male driver remains in hospital. [His] condition is improving but investigators have not yet been able to speak with him," police said in a news release.

Police said it appeared the 70-year-old driver had suffered a medical issue and was likely unconscious when the collision happened.

No charges have been laid.
