Officers recover body of man who fell into river in Banff National Park in July

Police say the body of a man who fell intothe North Saskatchewan Riverin Banff National Park in July has been found.

It's believed the 23-year-old had been hiking with two others along Glacier Lake Trail on July 25and had stopped to take photos along the river when he had fallen in.

RCMP and conservation officers conducted an extensive search.

On Sunday,Rocky Mountain House RCMP and Alberta Conservation officers were able to recover the man's body from a small, remote island west of Abraham Lake.

Abraham Lake is around 30 kilometres downstream from where Glacier Lake trail intersects with the river.

Police said the man's name will not be released and further updates are not anticipated.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the family at this time," RCMP said in an emailed release on Monday.
