Emergency signs coming for remote Calgary pathways

Better 911 help for Calgary pathway users is on the way.

The city is installing signs on remote sections of the sprawling pathway system, so that people calling 911 are able to tell dispatchers where they are located.

The pilot project signs feature letters and numbers, so 911 operators can pinpoint where the caller is, allowing emergency responders to get to the scene quickly.

The city is installing 175 of the small fluorescent green signs along pathways in Fish Creek park and along the Bow and Elbow River pathways.

Officials say they believe the system is easy for locals and visitors to understand.

If the pilot project is a success, the city says it will install the signs on other pathway areas.
