Global Energy Show in Calgary postponed due to COVID-19 emergency

Organizers of the Global Energy Show announced Friday that Alberta's COVID-19 state of emergency has prompted them to call off this year's event, which was set to take place in Calgary next week.

The major trade show, formerly called the Global Petroleum Show, brings together hundreds of exhibitors in the energy sector from all over the world.

"We know how important this show is to our global energy community, and we did not take this decision lightly," said organizers DMG Events in a statement.

"Planning is underway for 2022 with themes and ideas to continue our mission of defining the future of energy at North America's most important energy event."

The show was to have taken place at the BMO Centre from Sept. 21 to 23.

"To our loyal exhibitors, delegates and attendees from around the world, rest assured your bookings will be transferred to 2022," organizers said.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced a state of public health emergency and sweeping new COVID-19 measures for the province on Wednesday.

Next year's event has been set for June 7 to 9 at the same venue.
