Engine 23 storytime offers kids a glimpse into firefighting adventures

Calgary'sCentral Library is offering kids a chance to do just that, and it includes a chance to checkout Engine 23.

"This one-of-a-kind exhibit gives your kids a chance to put on firefighter duty gear and a fire helmet and climb aboard Engine 23 to read, imagine and play," said the city on its blog.

"There is even duty gear for adults if you want to let your inner child join in."

The installation started back on oneApril night under the cover of darkness. After the wheels came off, the once active fire truck was covered by a wall until it was officially unveiled.

The city says thegoal is to "encourage early literacy while also sharing important fire safety tips for kids and parents."

As part of the program, firefighterswill be reading stories throughout the summer:

  • Mondays at 10:30 a.m.Toddlers (ages 2-3) and their parents orcaregivers are welcome to drop in to enjoy a fire-themed storytime while seated atop Engine 23 in the Reading Nook.No registration required.
  • Fridays at 10:30 a.m.,Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 2p.m.Throughout July and August, toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2-5) and their parents orcaregivers are encourage tojoin Engine 23familystorytime.
  • Tuesdays at 2p.m., Wednesdays at 1p.m.and Thursdays at 2p.m. Throughout June, Julyand Augustall agesare welcome to drop in and join afirefighter for a special family storytime and the opportunity to start their very own new adventures.No registration required.
