1 dead after assault in southeast Calgary

One man is dead after a confrontation turned fatal in a southeast Calgary community on Friday night.

One man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident

One man is dead after a confrontation turned fatal in a southeast Calgary community on Friday night.

Police responded to a disturbance at approximately 9:30 p.m. after receiving a call from an upstairs tenant of a residence in the2500 block of NinthAvenue S.E.

"We heard reports of two males fighting," said Det. Ben Lawson with Calgary police. "Upon arrival, we confirmed one male to be deceased."

The deceased male was in his 40s, police said, while the other individuala 39-year-old manwas taken into custody.

No information is available surrounding the individuals involved or what led to the confrontation.

"Homicide is currently investigating," Lawson said.

Police are unlikely to release any further details until investigations conclude, including the results of an autopsy.

Lawson said the death is currently deemed suspicious.
