Police investigate collision in southern Alberta that killed 18-year-old woman

Police are asking for the public's help as they investigate a crash that killed an 18-year-old woman Monday night near Coaldale in southern Alberta.

Police are asking for the public's help as they investigate a crash that killed an 18-year-old woman Monday night near Coaldale in southern Alberta.

The incident took place around 8 p.m. on Monday, when a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara driven by the woman and heading east on Highway 3slammed into the back of a blue one-tonne Dodge truck that was mergingeastboundonto Highway 3 from Highway 512 near Coaldale.

"The impact resulted in the death of the 18-year-old woman driving the silver Suzuki," according to anRCMP news release issued Tuesday.

"A 46-year-old woman driving theDodge truck was taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A 55-year-old male passengerof the Dodge truck was not injured and taken home from the scene."

The family of the woman killed in the crash has been notified, but police say her name will not be released publicly.

Traffic was diverted around the scene for hours on Monday as investigators conducted their work.All possible factors are being considered in this matter. What is known there was good winter drivingroad conditions and clear weather.

"Our thoughts are withthe affected families with a tragic event especially occurring so close to the holiday season," RCMP Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry of the Coaldale/Picture Butte RCMP said in the release.
