The ban on open fires within Calgary remains in effect for Monday as the hot and dry weather continues for another day.

Officials imposed a Level3fire ban late Saturday night.

"We're greening up now but we didn't really get the rain storms we normally have in the spring and we haven't really had the moisture," said battalion chief Ernie Molineaux.

Fire crews are also concerned about the danger from strong winds.

"Fire can run away on us very very quickly," said Molineaux.

The ban on open fires includes backyard fire pits and charcoal grills.
