Defence suggests violent sex was consensual between accused rapist and alleged victim

The lawyer for a man accused of drugging, raping and beating a woman over an 11-hour period has suggested to the woman that the sex which left her with dozens of injuries was consensual.

Vasilios(Billy)Georgopoulos,39, is on trial on charges of sexual assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and uttering death threats.

Georgopoulosand the victim, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, made arrangementsto meet in an apartment-like hotel suitein October2017.

She said that after 11 torturous hours, she escaped the hotel, cabbed home and called police.

The trial is being presided over by Court of Queen's Bench Justice Alan Macleod and is set to wrap up at the end of theweek.

The woman he is accused of viciously attacking was questioned Tuesday by prosecutor Zailin Lakhoo. She was under cross-examination by defence lawyer Dale Fedorchuk on Wednesday.

The alleged victim said she andGeorgopouloshad a couple drinks and their initial sexual encounter began as consensual, the 49-year-old woman testified.

But then, she said, Georgopoulosbegan to beat and rape her. At one point, she said, he even burned her.

On Monday, a toxicologist testified that GHB, also known as the date-rape drug, was found in the woman's system in the hours after the alleged attack.

But Fedorchuk suggested the woman wanted money fromGeorgopoulos in exchange for sex.

"I suggest to you that you consented to all sexual activity that took place that day," said Fedorchuk.

Through tears, the woman replied: "strongly disagree."

The defence lawyer then suggested the woman could have left the hotel room at any time another assertion she disagreed with.

Finally,Fedorchukaskedthe alleged victim if she reportedGeorgopoulos to police because she did not receive any money from him in exchange for sex.

"Disagree," she said.
