Opponents of a proposal to build hundreds of homes on the Harvest Hills Golf Course attended anopen house put on by the city Monday night forthe controversial project, which is still under review.

StuartCantrill raisednumerous concerns with city staff on behalf of himself and other area residents, who don't want to see the current green space turned into a "concrete jungle."

"My wife and I bought this kind of as our dream home to raise the family," said Cantrill, who owns a homebacking onto the golf course.

After purchasing itlast year, QuantumPlace Developments and Cedarglen Homes filed an application with the city in July to redevelop the area and build roughly 700 homes.

In the meantime, the developer has kept the nine-holegolf course open to the public.

"The cannibalization and destruction of our recreational assets to do this is not the way to go," said Cantrill, who chairs a citizen group called Calgarians For Responsible Development.

"That golf course is constantly busy," he said.

Application to take months

City planners are reviewing the application and members of the development team came to the open house to answer questions.

"We're interested to hear from the public so that we can incorporate their feedback into our review," Rick Michalenko, a senior city planner, said in a release.

The review of the application is expected to take months.

The open house was heldMonday night at theBest Western Premier Freeport Inn, located at86 Freeport Blvd. N.E.
