Head-on collision in Woodlands seriously injures 2 drivers

Two people were taken to hospital Thursday night after a head-on collision between two SUVs in the southwest Calgary neighbourhood of Woodlands.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. at 24th Street and Woodpark Avenue S.W.

A Ford Escape crossed the median into the oncoming lane, colliding with a Toyota Highlander.

The driver of the Ford, a man believed to be in his 60s, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital with multiple serious injuries.

The woman driving the other SUV was also taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

Neither person is considered to be in life-threatening condition, police say.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
