Hike for Hospice raises funds for grief counselling and palliative care

Hundreds turned out to walk through Fish Creek Park today to raise funds for Hospice Calgary.

The annual Hike for Hospice supports grief counselling and palliative care programs and services.

"They've got these kids who might be in a pretty tough place and might have gone through some tough times losing a loved one or an immediate family member," said Calgary Stampeder Rob Cote, who's acted as the hike's ambassador for the ninth year.

"They bring them in, they help them work through their feelings and what they're going through, and they send them out into the world to go and live a happy and healthy life."

Services regardless of finances

The organization managed to raise over $130,000 on Sunday, beating its goal. Spokesperson Judy Wark said approximately 730 people showed up, but added the caterer thought the burger lineup was longer than that.

"These kids and these families and adults need it and that's why we're trying to raise funds, because they offer these programs and counselling to anybody regardless of financial situation,"Cote said.
