KGL Constructors, the company responsible for construction on the southwest Calgary ring road, is looking for hundreds of workers including skilled tradespeople, truck drivers, engineers and administrative workers.

The company held a job fair Saturday, and plenty of Calgarians turned up, resumes in hand.

"I think there's still a lot of people that are looking for work. We've had some people from the oil patch come in, others from up north. So they've been eager to kind of come here and find some work that's closer to home," said Ian McColl, public relations manager for KGL.

Antoinette Clark, who used to work with animals, was there looking for a new career path.

"I've been out of work three to four months now and it's been rough and I've been searching every single day," she said.

Jesus Ruiz works in oil and gas, but with less work available than before, he's looking for other options to fill the time.

"I have to look something to fill that gap that's created by not approving the pipelines, and which is looking for another job," he said.

The $4.5-billion project will construct31 kilometres of road, 14 interchanges and 47 bridges. Work is expected to be complete in the fall of 2021.

Those interested in applying can do so online, or can drop their resume off by visiting the job site.
