Isaiah Rider arrested in fatal Ranchlands beating of Christa Cachene

Calgary police have made an arrest in the fatal beating of Christa Cachene, who was discovered at her home in Ranchlands earlier this month.

Calgary police have made an arrest in the fatal beating of Christa Cachene, who was found deadat her home in Ranchlandsearlier this month.

"Isaiah Rider was arrested in Maskwacis [formerly known as Hobbema] earlier today by the RCMP," said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police homicide unit.

The 18-year-oldwill be transferred to Calgary, Chisholm said.

Rider is facingasecond-degree murder charge afterthe 26-year-old mother'sbody was found by her father on Oct. 11after a party at her home.

Police believeshe died "as a result of avicious beating" themorning after the party.

Cachene's family and friendsplan tohold a candlelight vigil to protest violence against women on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.at Olympic Plaza.

Police issuedan Alberta-wide warrant for assaultfor Rider last week, and a Canada-wide warrant for breach of conditions.

RCMP located Rideras a result of an investigation into a stolen carjust south of Ponoka.

Officers used a spike belt to stop the carnear theErmineskin First Nations Reserve.

Police said theyrecovered a firearm, but it's not yet knownif it has any relation to the Calgary homicide.
