Leaks have been discovered in some planters at the newly-renovated Devonian Gardens in downtown Calgary.

The problem was discovered during recent maintenance work at the gardens, which are on the fourth floor of The CORE shopping centre at Eighth Avenue between Second and Fourth streets S.W.

Doug Marter, a manager with the city's parks department, says the leak was found in the ceiling below the gardens.

"Anytime you have any leaks anywhere it's obviously a problem and we want to get it fixed, given that we have retail space below us," he said. "So right now it's minor but obviously we want to make sure that it doesn't get any more serious than it is."

The gardens were shut from 2008 until last June to undergo a $37-million renovation.

The cost of repairing the leaky planters will be fully covered by warranty, the city said.

Some trees, shrubs and groundcover will have to be temporarily moved while the work is done.
