Man arrested in shooting near LRT platform

An inmate already serving time in a federal prison has been charged in a four-month-old Calgary shooting.

Travis Jordan Brunet, 22,was charged with second-degree murderin the shooting death of Preston Matthews, 38,on Nov. 19, police said Thursday.

Matthewswas shot on the sidewalk near the 8th Street LRT platform and later died in hospital.

Brunetwas already serving time for an unrelated crime at the Bowden Institution, a federal prison near Innisfail.

Staff Sgt. Barry Cochran says investigators used still pictures and surveillance video from the scene to identify a suspect.

"This meeting with the victim and the people seen in the video was a drug related matter."

Cochran says police expect to make more arrests in the coming weeks.
