Man charged in deadly hit and run

Numerous charges have been laid in a fatal hit and run in northwest Calgary Sunday.

Police were notified when a witness saw two men breaking into a truck anddrivingaway on 20th Avenue. Thetruck allegedlysped througha red light and hit a car making a left turn at 10th Street.

A 58-year-old woman, who was a back-seat passenger in the car, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

The two men in the stolen truck attempted to flee the scene but were followed by witnesses and the police helicopter.

Christopher James Rae, 26,was arrested and charged with criminal negligence causing death, hit and run andbeing impaired by drugs.

Police spokesman Kevin Brookwell saidthe passenger in thestolen truck was also arrestedbut has notyet been charged with any criminal offences.
