Boy dead in McLean Creek ATV rollover

A father and son ATV adventure in the McLean Creek area took an ugly turn Saturday afternoon.

Cochrane RCMP, paramedics and Kananaskis Emergency Services were called to the scene just before 1 p.m.

An ATV side-by-side rollover has left a 12-year-old boy dead. (CBC )

A father and son ATV adventure in the McLean Creek area took an ugly turn Saturday, police said in a release.

Their side-by-side rolled overleaving the12-year-old boy dead.

The father was treated and released.

Cochrane RCMP, paramedics and Kananaskis Emergency Services were called to the scene just before 1 p.m.

The terrain in the area required first responders to use a long line to reach the father and son.

Both were wearing helmets and speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

RCMP and a Calgary medical examiner are investigating.

Corrections

  • In an earlier version of this story, police stated the teenager was 14 years old. Police now say he was 12 years old.
