Traffic stop in Quebec leads to arrest of 2 men wanted in southeast Calgary murder

Two men have been arrested by Montreal police in relation to a weekend shooting death in southeast Calgary. One of them, Shannoh Jabet, was previously convicted in a 2014 beating death.

Two men are under arrest in Montreal foramurder Saturdayin southeast Calgary.

MouradGasmi, 21, andShannoh Jabet, 22, both of Calgary, have been arrested on warrants for the second-degree murder of Mvemba Eriq Alfonso.

Alfonso, who also went by the last name Mvemba, was shot to death early Saturday morning in the southeast community of Dover. He was 23.

On Saturday, around 3:30 a.m., Calgary police responded to a call toan apartment in the 3400 block of 31A Avenue S.E. There, they discovered a deceased man in his twenties. He had been shot to death.

"In this particular instance we believe this to be what we classify as a 'drug rip,'where somebody attended another residence, or what have you, to try to steal or take [street] drugs that don't belong to them," said acting Insp. Paul Wozney in a news conference Wednesday.

Wozneysaid police believe the victim and the two accused were known to each other.

Arrested in Montreal

During their investigation, police discovered that a black Dodge truck had beenspotted fleeing the scene. It was identified and reported stolen the following day.

On Tuesday in Montreal, the Suretedu Quebec informed Calgary police they had pulled over the same Dodge. Two men were detained and subsequentlyarrested for second-degree murder.

The men will be transported back to Calgary. A court date has not been set.

Jabet known to police

ShannohJabet, one of the two suspects arrested in Montreal, is known to police hewas previously convicted of manslaughter in the beating death of an acquaintance in 2014.

In 2014, police released surveillance camera images of Shannoh Jabet after a fatal beating. Now Jabet has been arrested on a second-degree murder charge along with another man after a fatal shooting in Dover on the weekend. (CPS)

Jabetand another man were charged in the death of Ayuen Ajak Goot, who was beaten in a Radisson Heights strip mall parking lot on July 5, 2014. The 18-year-old, died 10 days later in hospital.

The beating was reportedly the result of a "beef" the acquaintances had and started after a night of drinking.

Jabetwas charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge ofmanslaughter. He was sentenced to time served.
