3 Canadian music halls of fame get permanent home in Studio Bell

Three national halls of fame will now have a home in Calgary at Studio Bell, the National Music Centre announced on Friday.

Some of Canada's most internationally celebrated songwriters Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot have been inducted into Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, just one of three organizations dedicated to preserving and celebrating Canadian music.

Joining the Canadian SongwritersHallofFame(CSHF) in the fifth-floor studio will be the Canadian MusicHallofFameand the Canadian Country MusicHallofFameCollection a large area dedicatedto preserving the legacy of Canada's most important musicians.

"Finally, Canada will have a physical place to visit these three important national hallsoffame, and through our programming we can celebrate our pioneers and icons," said Adam Fox, NMC's director of programs.

The 22,000-square-foot National Music Centre will be a creative hub for music innovation, include several recording studios, host musical acts from around the world in a 300-seat theatre, as well as display more than 2,000 musical artifacts from Canada's music history.

The $168 millionStudio Bell is expected to open next summer.
