A man was shot by police in northwest Calgary early Wednesday morning.

The incident began at about 4 a.m. in the 200 block of Hendon Drive in the community of Highwood.

Officers were called to the scene for reports that a box truck had hit a home and other parked vehicles, police said in a release.

A confrontation with the driver developed, and "due to the rapidly changing dynamics," an officer fired their gun, police said.

The man was taken to hospital in stable condition and is in custody.

No police officers were hurt.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating and no other details were released.
