Police warn of convict with history of targeting women in parkades

Less than a week after a public warning about the prison release of a man with a history of violent crimes, Calgary police issued a bulletin about another inmate who has completed his sentence.

Less than a week after a public warning about the prison release of a man with a history of violent crimes, Calgary police issued a bulletin about another inmate who has completed his sentence.

Michael Andrew Scott, 35,was released into the Calgary area Wednesday after serving more than 12 years inthe Bowden Institution for three counts of sexual assault, two counts of robbery and two counts of uttering threats.

Scott has a history of randomly targetingwomen in parkades and other secluded areas, said police.

Police said they issued the warning after "careful deliberation in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of Scott's release."

Under conditions of his release, Scott must report regularly to police, follow a curfew and refrain from being around drugs, alcohol or weapons.

Under Sec. 32 of Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, a public body can release information about a risk of significant harm to the environment or to the health or safety of the public.

Scott is 5-feet-9,155 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. He has a eight-centimetre-long scar on his right hand.

On Friday, Calgary police issued a public warning about Gregory James Venn, 45, who was released in the Calgary area on Sunday after serving an eight-year sentence for breaking and entering with intent.

He has a history of breaking into homes to commit sexual offences againstwomen, said police.

Investigators said they were concerned about Venn's high risk to reoffend despite participating in three rehabilitation programs in prison.
