Man digging in southern Alberta field dies after rupturing gas line

A man who was digging in a field north of Turner Valley in southern Alberta ruptured a natural gas line and died but a second man who was the area escaped harm.

A man who was digging in a field north of Turner Valley in southern Alberta has diedafter rupturing a natural gas line.

Emergency crews were called to therural property southwest of Calgary shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

RCMP say he was digging in a field when he was overcome by gas after rupturing a distribution line.

Emergency medical authorities say a second man was in the area at the time, but was not harmed.

The gas leak was contained and authorities say there was no danger to surrounding properties.
