Red Deer drug busts net 8 kg of marijuana, 1 kg of cocaine

Three police raids in Red Deer turned up a kilogram of cocaine, hundreds of oxycodone pills and more than eight kilograms of marijuana, RCMP say.

Three police raids in Red Deer turned up a kilogram of cocaine, hundreds of oxycodone pills and over eight kilograms of marijuana, RCMP say.

Members of the priority crimes task force executed the search warrants on three residences both sides of a duplex on Garrison Circle and at a house on Towers Close on April 13.

Officers also discovered two shotguns along with ecstasy powder and pills, magic mushrooms, hash and hash oil.

About $38,000 in cash, 21 cell phones and large amounts of drug paraphernalia werealso seized, police say.

"The priority crimes task force has made a significant dent in the illicit drug trade in our community," said Supt. Scott Tod.

"We've been successful and will continue to be successful in targeting these groups."

Police arrested two men in the duplex, aged 18 and 21, anda woman, aged 20, at the Towers Close address. Athird man, aged 31, was arrestedat another location.

They all face several charges drugs, weapons and stolen property charges.

The investigation began almost four months ago based on tips from the public.

The three men are being kept in custody and the woman has been released on bail. All four are set to appear in Red Deer provincial court later this month.
