Royalty review or not, more layoffs coming says expert

With or without the royalty review, a Calgary business expert predicts more layoffs are coming in the energy industry.

"I think there's going to be another layoff coming in September-October... becausethe hedge is coming off the forward price and also the economic conditions, irrespective of the royalty review," said Bob Schulz from the Haskayne School of Business.

He doesn't take issue with a royalty review, saying it can be helpful to look at the structure of the province's royalty system.

"I think that the real issue is going to be on the environmental side and the increased cost which is not factored into the royalties as they currently are," he said.
