A Calgary man who lured a 14-year-old girl over Facebook and initiated a four-month sexual relationship with her has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Satinderjit Mangat, 41, was found guilty Friday of luring and sexual assault following a trial that wrapped up earlier this year.

Court of Queen's Bench Justice Marsha Erb called Mangat's actions "predatory" and said he had used the anonymity of the internet to initiate contact with the teen.

The victim's parents contacted police in December 2013 after they discovered explicit chats between their daughter and Mangat.

At the trial, Mangatadmitted to having sexually explicit conversations over text message but denied anyphysical contact with the girl.

The Southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit arrested Mangat whoalso uses the online alias Sam Pat in January 2014.

Defence lawyer Jim Lutz had proposed a four- to five-year sentence while prosecutor Martha O'Connor pitched six to seven years in prison.

Erb sentenced Mangat to four years for the sexual assault and two years for luring.

Mangat was acquitted on a charge of making child pornography and was on bail until the sentencing.
