Skateboarder hit near U of C seriously injured

A 20-year-old skateboarder remains in life-threatening condition in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle near the University of Calgary.

Overhead pedestrian crossing light was illuminated at the time, say police

Charges are pending against a 43-year-old woman driving a black 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, which police say failed to stop while heading eastbound on 32nd Avenue. (CBC)

A 20-year-old skateboarderis now out of surgery after he beingstruck by a vehicle near the University of Calgary.

Police say he was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but is expected to recover.

The collisionhappened around 11 a.m. MTin the crosswalk at 33rd Street and 32nd Avenue northwest.

Police say he was on his way to universityand four other vehicles had stopped to let him cross.

Charges are pending against a 43-year-old womandrivinga black 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, which police say failed to stop while heading eastbound on 32nd Avenue.

"The overhead pedestrian crossing light was illuminated at the time," said police in a release."The Chevrolet failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 20-year-old male."
