Heavy snow to cover Banff, Waterton this weekend

Environment Canada is askingdriversto be cautious if travelling west of Calgary this weekend, as much of the area is under a snowfall warning.

Environment Canada is askingdriversto be cautious if travelling west of Calgary this weekend, as much of the area is under a snowfall warning.

The agency issuedwarnings Saturday for Banff National Park,as well as multiple other areasof southern Alberta, including Waterton, Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, and Cypress Hills.

Further north, Jasper National Park, Hinton, Nordegg, Rocky Mountain House and the Whitecourt area are also under warnings.

According to the agency, the snow is expected to move south throughout the day Saturday, ending early Sunday morning.

Between 10 and20 centimetres of snow is expected to fall, though Environment Canada noted that as much as 30 centimetres may fall in areas nearthe British Columbia and United States border.

Calgary was not under a snowfall warning as of 10 a.m. Saturday.

Those travelling on affected highways should be prepared to adjust their driving.

"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations," the agency said in a release.
