Man charged with murder and attempted murder after 2 shootings in city's northeast

Calgary police have charged a man in connection to two shootings, one of them fatal, that happened in the city's northeastover thelong weekend.

Calgary police have charged a man in connection to two shootings, one of them fatal, that happened in the city's northeastover thelong weekend.

Taylor Roan, 25,was taken into custody Sunday and has since been charged with second-degree murder after ashooting Saturdayin the community of Castleridge.

He has also been charged withattempted murder and robbery with a firearm in relation to an incidentFriday in the community of Falconridge.

Police identified the dead victimas 41-year-old Nathan Ward. Investigators said hewas known to Roan, and officers continue to investigate the motive behind this incidentas well as the relationship between the two.

They said the motive behind the shooting on Fridaywas robbery. The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

He and the Roan were not known to each other, police said.

"Early in our investigation, we noted similarities between these two cases. Due to the violent nature and proximity in time, public safety became a priority for us," said Staff-Sgt. Sean Gregson.

"Our teams worked around the clock, and we employed numerous investigative resources from across the service to find the suspect involved in these shootings. With this arrest, we have removed that threat from the community, ensuring the safety of the public."

The death was Calgary's 24thhomicide of the year.
