$500K stolen from Oilmen's Club in Taber by ex-manager, police allege

The former manager of a restaurant in Taber, Alta., is accused of bilking the business out of $500,000.

The former manager of a restaurant in Taber, Alta., is accused of bilking the business out of $500,000.

After an investigation that began in October 2014, theTaber Police Service determined that $500,000 had been misappropriated from the Oilmen's Club.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on Aug. 12 and charged with theft and fraud.

He is set to appear in Taber provincial court on Aug. 30.

Taber police Chief GrahamAbela said the case involved many hours of investigation, several judicial orders and consultation with prosecutors in Calgary.

"The alleged victim in this matter has been patient as the Taber Police Service worked through the complexities of the case and I am pleased with the results of the work of our officers," he said in a release.

Taber is 280 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
