Calgary couple offering VIP voter experience on election day

A Calgary couple is givingfirst-time votersthe VIP treatment today.

Leor Rotchild and Kate McKenzie will chauffeur at least three rookiestothe polling stationsin a four-door Car2Go andif there's a lineup upon arrival they'll havesnacks and trivia ready to pass the time.

"When we go vote, it's a really fun experience. And if more people had that experience they would become life-long voters," said Rotchild.

Rotchild and his wife, McKenzie, put the word out on Facebookseveral weeks ago to the people living in theirriding of Calgary Confederation.

"What's been really cool is we've actually seen it spreading," said McKenzie."Other friends who saw that said, 'We want to do that too in our own neighbourhood.' So they've copied our post and advertised it in their own ridings."

The couple say they have anew Canadian, aperson who just moved toCalgary and ayouth voter already signed up, but arewilling to take on more. Their offer iscompletely free and non-partisan.

"As Canadians ... we want to encourage multiple perspectives, we want toencourage people to come out to vote and that can't happen unless we get behind our own friends and neighbours," said McKenzie.

The VIP experience wraps up with a party this evening at the couple'snortheastCalgary home. Rotchild, who grew up in Toronto, says they'll be "switching back and forth" betweenelection coverage and the Jays game.
