Organizers of this year's X-Fest in Calgary say the event has been cancelled because of "adverse weather conditions."

"Heavy rain over the last 24 hours has created an unsafe environment to proceed with the festival," said Union Events in a release.

Ticket holders will be able to redeem their tickets atEdmonton'sSonic BoomFestival, which features the same artist lineup includingHozier, Tenacious D, Ellie Goulding andAlexisonfire.

Refunds will also beavailable at the point of purchase.

X92.9 radio hosts Tyler and Lynch posted a video of them on the X-Fest grounds showing why the event has been cancelled.

Many Calgarians took to Twitter to lament the loss of their weekend plans.

Others hoped the artists who came to Calgary would not waste an opportunity to get spontaneous.

Wayne Coyne, lead singer ofthe Flaming Lips, says his band would love to do a makeup show, but it probably won't be today.

He says he trusts the organizers who are trying to keep fans safe, but he was hoping for a different outcome.

"If they told us to play, we would play," he said.
