440 lbs. of marijuana seized from 3 Edmonton homes

Four people face trafficking charges after police seized 440 pounds of marijuana at three Edmonton homes.

Staff Sgt. Carlos Cordoso is calling the marijuana seizure the largest in the history of Edmonton police

"When we get something like this,we're extremely happy," he said. "And not only that,we know it has a ripple effect throughout the community, it looks good and we're taking a bunch of dope off the street."

Cordoso says everyone charged in the investigation knew one another.

In one case, two children, 7 and 9, were found in an apartment along with drugs including mushrooms, GHB, oxycodone, ketamine and MDMA, as well as marijuana.

A man, 29, and a woman, 26, were arrested and charged with trafficking and causing a child to be drug-endangered.

They also face charges of causing a child to need protective services under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.

Ketamine, mushrooms, marijuana, marijuana wax, hash, oxycodone and other illegal pills were found at a home near 91 Street and 159 Avenue.

A 31-year-old man faces 17 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and illegally possessing body armour.

On Saturday, police seized marijuana, MDMA, hash, GHB and marijuana waxfrom a home near 219 Street and 95A Avenue.

A 36-year-old man faces four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police estimate the value of the drugs at $1.29 million. They also seized $265,000 in cash.
