Burnt RV belonged to missing Alberta couple

A motorhome that was found on fire near Edson, Alta., a week ago belonged to a missing Alberta couple, the RCMP said Monday evening.

Lyle Thomas McCann, 78, and Marie Ann McCann, 77, left St. Albert on July 3. The couple was driving a 1999 green and white Gulf Stream Sun Voyager recreational vehicle,which was towing a light green Hyundai Tucson.

The couple was headed to Chilliwack, B.C., to meet a family member on July 10 but never showed up.

In a statement, the RCMPconfirms that the vehiclefound at the Minnow Lake campground belonged to the McCanns andcalls the couple's disappearance "extremely suspicious."

Police plan to examine the motorhome more thoroughly as well as do a more intensive search of the area where it was found, said RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb.

"It is going to be closely examined to see if there is anything that was not located at the time when it was simply a burned vehicle."

There is no record of the couple camping at Minnow Lake, Webb said. The SUV is still missing.

Motorhome completely in flames

Around 7 p.m. on July 5, Edson firefighters responded to a call about a motorhome fire southeast of the Alberta town.

Fire Chief Al Schram told CBC News on Monday the vehicle hadall butburned to the ground by the time fire crews arrived.The SUV was not at the scene.

"When our members got on scene, it was basically fully involved, which was basically just the frame itself was left," Schram said.

An official with a towing company in Edson confirmed it had the motorhome.

The RCMP K Division Serious Crimes Unit is now involved in the investigation, as are the St. Albert and Edson detachments of the RCMP.
