City orders work stopped on Ambrose Place

The City of Edmonton has issued a stop-work order onan inner-city homefor people with chronic addictions.

"The stop work order will be issued based on the outcome of the court decision," said city planning manager Scott Mackie Wednesday. "It'll be issued within 48 hours."

"There can be no further construction activity on the site until valid permits are in place," he said.

Construction on Ambrose Place began several months ago, but thisweek the Alberta Court of Appeal ruled the development permit expired long before construction began.

The builder can apply for a new permit, which would have to go through the standard approval and appeal processes, said Mackie.

The McCauley Community Leaguesaid it will fight any plan to revive the project.

The neighbourhood already has more than its share of social housing, said president Rob Stack.
