Edmonton Transit hikes cash fare

Busfareon Edmonton Transit rises to an even $3 Wednesday.

The fare hike only affects cash farescurrently set at $2.85.

There are no changes to most monthly passes,tickets or day passes.

The Senior Citizen Annual Pass goes from $118 to $121.50 while the Low Income Senior Annual Pass goes from $51 to $52.50.

The Senior Citizen Monthly Pass increases to $13.50.

The hikes help pay for improvements in transit service and for new service in growing areas of the city, said Edmonton Transit.

They have also helped to pay for new buses, transit centres, extension of the LRT and for increased DATS service, it said.
